Character Trading Cards for First Grade

ReadWriteThink has to be one of the absolute best resources for early literacy I have ever used. Today in class, our first graders made Character Trading Cards. In order to make the cards, they had to answer a series of questions about the character such as "How do they feel at the beginning of the story?", "What is their problem?" and "What is their goal?" At the end, the printed cards can be cut out, but we just posted them on the wall as is. It seriously challenges them to think and to draw conclusions so make sure they understand the story's plotlines well! The only struggles we had were when students did not remember facts, like the setting or the character's physical attributes.

I have also used their Story Map with first graders as well as the Plot Diagram.
